My info graphic

I made this on Pages and then couldn't figure out how to post it to the grad credit blog. So here is a picture of it. Not sure how else to post it. Hooray I failed! And tried again!

And then there were two!

(Dan Tolle) Halftoning

Some people in the cml16 group asked me to share the way I was able to get the halftone image on my laser-cut box.  It is easy-as-pie, once you realize that good people like Jason Dor ie has created simple-to-use software and has made it available:  http://jasondorie.com/page_cnc.html. There are two programs that I use:  reactor and halftoner.  It took me a little while to realize how easy these are to use:  download the programs, open one or the other, and simply drag any image into the window.  The halftoner program will create code that you can send to a CNC machine, or you can simply capture the images that are created any other way you want (I use the "snipping tool"), then use them.  Play with the settings and use the "preview" feature until you get what you want.  The "reactor" program is hypnotic.

Kyra programs bb8

I was pleased how easy it was to code a sensing collision, shake head twice, wait, rotate 180 degrees, move forward with bb8 and Tickle app!

Kyra's toy hack

Here is a photo of my toy hack creation. I will also send a video. It started out as a car, with much corrosion. I was able to scavenge one working motor and shaft and combine it with a donated beanie toy.

It was a treat to look away from the computer this week (phew) and do a hands-on artsy activity! We made Gratitude Journals, no-sew hand made journals. Thanks for all the helpful information I can share with my students!

Learning through failure

My deconstructed robotic dog toy hack. A lot of time and patience led to me learning about : series circuits, soldering, converting battery power sources to use different battery sizes to power an object, using electrical shrink sleeves.
I also came away with personal story for my students about learning through mistakes and perseverance.

Raspberry pi magic 8 ball

Really excited to learn raspberry pi! I'm thinking a good staff inservice "game" could be to program a raspberry pi + sense hat using the magic 8 ball code (from the pi resource page) and change questions to things staff could do or respond to (ex. What did you do this summer ?). It would also be an awesome TA activity to start the year!

Shannon DeSantis's simple circuit bookmark

After years of trepidation, I finally learned how to sew and create this simple circuit bookmark. I look forward to exploring more with e-textiles both personally and with my students.

Project

I created a standalone application that allows students to check in and out of class. This would sit on their tables and by the door of the classroom. It logs their movements and backs up the information to the Pi and Google Drive.
